The Small and Rural Schools Network is excited to announce our new Regional Day School Program (RDSP)
The Small and Rural Schools Network (SRSN) is expecting to pilot two regional day school programs for students with intensive needs in the 2022-23 school year. These regional day schools will provide an additional option in the continuum of special education placements in our small and/or rural LEAs. This pilot opportunity will allow for students from different small and/or rural LEAs with similar needs to come together in a highly supportive classroom with specialized staff. The specific locations of the two programs will soon be finalized. Current plans include a day school in West Texas and one in East Texas.
The "Why" of the Programs
Sometimes, it can be very challenging for small and/or rural schools to effectively serve students in the least restrictive environment. Larger LEAs in or near a larger city often have more resources available to them to help serve students with more significant needs. In an attempt to help small/rural LEAs provide a more robust continuum of services, the Small and Rural Schools Network (SRSN) will begin piloting two Regional Day school Programs for Students with Intensive Needs in the 2022-23 school year.
The SRSN posted a Request for Proposal to vendors. The vendor awarded the contract is Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI) to provide these programs. SESI has successfully set up and implemented such programs here in Texas and across the country. They will work with the LEA who agrees to host the classroom within each program, to provide all administrative, educational, behavioral, or other support that will be needed. Please visit www.sesischools.com for more information about SESI.
As we continue to plan, we will update this page with more information. Please check back in early 2022 for updates.
